Some of my favorite Radford Spots!

When you add up all the years I have lived in Radford by the time I moved it was a whopping 7 years!  I had really grown in love with this town and miss it dearly.  We are however, slowly coming to love Lynchburg; maybe not as much but close.  I thought I would share some of my favorite places in Radford that I spent many hours.  I couldn't imagine what life would have been like without college because you meet so many great people, experience great things, and find out more about yourself.  I love all the time I spent in Radford and now it has a little piece of my heart!
We loved the downtown movie theatre. Movies were cheap and popcorn even cheaper!
This was our first home! I loved it! Small but cute and comfy!

7-11 many late nights spent buying taquitos!

I really miss the free membership to the Rec Center

Hangar's and Waftos!

This was not opened until I was out of College but we've spent many a night there since!

Riley's... dancin the night away!

Thank you Radford for all the great memories!

National Harbor, MD

I am in love with this little town! Luke and I headed down to National Harbor , MD for a PT conference.  Luke was participating in lobbying for PT laws on Capitol Hill.  This conference was held at the Gaylord Hotel which was the biggest hotel I have ever seen! It was beautiful!

While Luke was busy with PT related activities I was touring the town! My favorite restaurant by far was Ketchup!  As many of you know I am an ketchup fanatic as well as my brother and my husband.  This restaurant was fabulous.  We were able to sit outside and have a beautiful view of the Potomac River.  With all of their food they brought out 7 different flavored ketchup's.  We loved them all! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are a ketchup lover , like me :)

My favorite store was Charming Charlie's.  This store is heaven for women! It is a huge accessory, jewelry, clothing , shoes, etc. store.  It's also arranged by color! I spent an hour in there the first day and went back for more the day we left.

This was the view from our Hotel Room!
I think we have discovered that one of our very favorite things to do is travel :) We were only there for a day and night but it was so wonderful to get away from our little town and explore and relax in a bigger city.  I also love having an excuse to travel even for short trips!  We're already looking into the next PT conference.

King Family Vineyards

It has been so long since I've blogged, I think I have forgotten how to do it! I'm going to go all the way back to Mother's Day.  For this Mother's Day I ended up planning a tour of a few different wineries around the Crozet area. Our last stop of the day was at the King Family Vineyards.  It started with a wine tasting (where you get to keep your nice wine glass!) Let me recommend the Croze Rosae (I am probably spelling this wrong!) It was a light wine and it reminded me of home; hence the name.

After our tasting we bought a bottle and then headed out to the horse stalls to see the horses.  My mom is in love with their horses and we spent a long time visiting with them.

There were so many families/friends sitting down on the grounds of the Vineyards laughing, drinking, and having a great time together.  I want to go back one day, pack a picnic, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy it on the lawn!  If you get a change make your way on over to King Family and enjoy the wine, beautiful scenery, and family/friends.

Lynchburg Hill Cats

Hi there bloggers!
I haven't blogged in so long! Now I have tons to share so keep an eye out.  My husband is a huge baseball fan so I wanted to share the info about the Hillcats.  If you're in the Lynchburg area the Hillcats Baseball team is a fun thing to go see.  They normally have a few games a week and on the weekends they have Fireworks! A few weeks ago we saw their opening game and  the fireworks after, wow, they were amazing! Probably one of the best fireworks shows I've ever seen!

A great deal they have on Tuesday is buy one get one ticket free and if you bring in a kraft cheese wrapped you get one ticket for $2.00 so basically on Tuesdays you get two tickets for $2.00 not a bad deal! (They also let you keep your cheese wrapper so you can use it all season)  All throughout the week they have deals on food, tickets, seats, etc.  It's a great thing to do with friends, date night, or any get-me-out-of-the-house trip :)  If you end up going this summer look for us, we'll probably be there cheering the team on!

Pulaski Tornados

As some of you have already seen the county I use to teach in was hit very hard with tornados about a week and a half ago.  The damage is unbelievable.  There were so many families that were affected and didn't even have insurance.  Homes were destroyed, power was lost, roofs were taken off homes, etc.  Its incredible that something like this could happen in good ol' southern VA.  If you have the means consider making a small donation:
A big THANK YOU to my fellow co-workers for their donations already :)

Lynchburg College Relay For Life- St. Baldrick's

This past friday Lynchburg College had their Relay for Life.  One of our great friends Christi raised tons of money toward cancer research and even agreed to have her head shaved to create awareness/support for children with cancer.  I admire her for making such a big decision and she sure does pull off the look! She looks amazing!

I also want to give a shout out to all of the LC DPT program because they were the
#1 fundraising team for this event!  These people are so great and have so much compassion for others. I'm so glad Luke is a part of this class!

Before

After

In a few weeks I have my own Relay for Life.  I will be walking with my co-workers.  If you haven't been to an event its a great night.  Your team sets up a "booth" where you can sell things for Relay (all proceeds go to cancer research), hang out with friends , chat , relax , take cat naps , etc.  You need the cat naps because the event lasts until the next morning.  During the event you make sure that at least a few of your team members are walking at all times.

There are Relay for Life Events all over the U.S. so get those walking shoes on and get out and support the fight against cancer!

Shopping Trip to Williamsburg!

If you've never been, Williamsburg has some really great outlets!  Tanger Prime Outlets are perfect if you love shopping and finding good deals.  My mom and I went on this trip to celebrate my birthday! The shopping there is great but, get there early because parking fills up!  We also stayed at a great hotel, Hampton Inn.  They offered a free continental breakfast that had hot waffles, eggs, bacon, muffins, bagels, juice, cereal, etc. ; quite a spread!

We also had dinner at my new favorite restaurant Carrabba's! This restaurant was sooo good! It is an Italian restaurant that I would compare to Olive Garden but is much better!  They have great fresh salads with each meal, homemade bread, and delicious Blackberry Sangria! Yum, I already want to go back!

Overall, Williamsburg is a great place to spend a weekend! You can shop til' you drop and eat until you can't eat anymore!  Great Weekend!

Look for my upcoming blog covering Lynchburg's DPT Relay For Life!

DeVault Family Vineyards

This weekend we headed to DeVault Family Vineyards in Concord, Va.  It was a quick drive down the road about 30 minutes from Lynchburg.  It was a very small winery but they have the most AMAZING white and red sangria I have ever tasted!  It was a beautiful winery and the tasting room was gorgeous! They let us taste all 7 wines that they make right in the back of the tasting room.

This vineyard offers something unique that not a lot of wineries offer. They sell glasses of the wine and famous sangria for your to enjoy while walking around their 32 acres.  They have picnic benches all over the winery, a pool, stocked pond , and trails all around that they encourage wine tasters to visit.  It was nice to take a walk around while I was enjoying my glass of white sangria! Their wine I would say is average but if you love sangria than this is the best around!
p.s.   Later this week I will post their recipe for the white sangria!

First BBQ of 2011!

Yesterday it was near 80 degrees in Lynchburg! We had to fire up the grill and have a good ol' fashion BBQ!  You can't go wrong with burgers and dogs on the grill and enjoying time outside with good friends!  I can't wait for the weather to stay like this so we can continue to enjoy Lynchburg and all the fun things you can do outside!  Today we're heading somewhere around the area to enjoy the day! Be on the lookout for an update :)

p.s. If you have allergies like me, you're probably dying!  I sneeze at least 10 times in a row each morning!  Craziness!

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOES OUT TO MY MOH!!! LOVE YOU!!!

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Wow, its been a while! I haven't taken many pictures lately but this weekend is going to be BEAUTIFUL!! I can't wait to see what we decide to do around the Lynchburg Area.  Whatever it is , it will start with a nice BBQ out on our back patio Friday Afternoon :) In Lynchburg on Friday they are predicting it to be 82 degrees !!!!! This warm weather makes me think of flowers and colorful tulips are some of my favorites~

Enjoy the second half of the work week and look for a blog update during the early part of next week!!

Happy Birthday Mamaw!

Happy Birthday to my Mamaw!  She passed away in January but I still miss her.  I wanted to share a quick memory that's always been one of my favorites.  I feel like I was always eating when I was with her.  One of my favorite foods was  Ore Ida Crispers.  She would fry them in her Fry Daddy to make them extra crispy! Man, were they good!  I always remember her pulling that greasy thing out and fixing them and then letting us eat a whole plate full on the kitchen counters! Yes, we use to crawl up on the counters and eat our snacks, watching t.v.
p.s. If you saw this corner and this counter it was high and small haha! We LOVED doing that!  That is one of my all time favorite memories!  When you think about how much you miss someone you really have to just remember all those great times you had together!

In the spirit of Birthdays, I made some funfetti cookies for a cookout we're going to tonight and to celebrate Mamaw's birthday!  These cookies are quite addicting but, most people say they are too sweet.  They pair best with a big glass of milk.  If you're curious for the recipe its right on the outside of the Funfetti box! Enjoy!

Lynchburg: 2 Us: 0

This will be a short and sweet post! Yet again, someone has stolen our property! We woke up this weekend and noticed that my husbands very nice and pricey mountain bike had been taken.  It's sad to know someone would take this from right outside of our own house.  Things like this sure do make us miss Radford even more! I'm sure things like this happen everywhere but lately it seems like enough is enough!

We won't let this bring us down though! We still had a wonderful Saturday together!  With my husband studying all day , everyday we live for our Saturdays together :)  Next Saturday we plan on nailing everything down to the outside of our place :)

Wheelchair bound for a day

My husband is going through a DPT program in Lynchburg and he was given an assignment to be wheelchair bound for 24 hours.  We started this assignment by going out to Kroger and also getting a RedBox.

I had to get the wheelchair in and out of the car and let me tell you I would have to get a larger car! Pulling and pushing this big wheelchair in and out of my trunk was very hard and heavy for me!  Luke was able to move his arms but had no use of his legs so he used this wooden transfer board to help slide himself in and out of the car.  To watch my husband struggling to just get out of the car was hard to see but I needed to let him do it on his own.
He was able to reach the RedBox which I was surprised about.  We then went into Kroger and got a ton of stares - both of us.  Mainly it was little kids that would stare, but that's just a child's curiosity.  We also had a manager in the store be "overly nice" towards us.  My husband wasn't able to see the top shelf of the grocery store so I just pulled them forward.  Tonight we are going to head out to dinner with his wheelchair.  My husband says he is afraid to knock something over in the restaurant but that is just part of the territory. (we also love booths! but will need to give that up if this were our new lifestyle)  It should be interesting to see how it goes tonight!
Gracie had to check out the situation
Overall I think this was a great assignment even though I'm sure we still don't understand all of the struggles that someone who lives in a wheelchair deals with we did get a taste.

A short visit to the city

This weekend we had a beautiful wedding in DC! Congrats to the Mr. and Mrs.  It was a beautiful wedding, picture perfect!  The food was amazing and so were my new favs- Georgetown Cupcakes! My oh my they were fabulous!  I have a cute little picture of some of the flavors that were offered :

Our hotel was only 2 blocks to the White House, so before the wedding we headed on over to Obama's humble abode  :)  It was  so great to see it in person , and seemed much smaller than what I remember from being there when I was younger.  It was beyond windy in DC so we didn't make it to all of the sites we wanted to see.  However, it was still really great to see the White House.
Overall a great weekend! It was topped off with time with some of the greatest college roommates and friends!  On sunday morning we met up with some of our friends and we walked to a great restaurant called Ted's Montana Grill.  It was so great! I highly recommend their buffalo burgers!  I don't think we'll be moving to the big city anytime soon but I loved visiting for a short time!

Computer Crash!

How was everyone's Valentine's Weekend?  We had a great one here!  Recently my computer decided to basically crash so now I'm starting to save for a new laptop :)  It seems like we're always saving for something... but secretly I kind of love saving for something new and knowing it will be great once I get it!

I'm so excited for a beautiful wedding this weekend in Washington D.C.  I can't wait to take some quality pictures of the area!  The wedding is located within a few blocks of the White House and I know it will be beautiful! Look for an update this weekend with pics of fun things to do around the D.C. area :)

Peaks of Otter Winery

For the wine enthusiast or anyone who likes to support the local farmers:

This weekend I was surprised with a trip to Peaks of Otter for a picnic then on to a wine tasting at Peaks of Otter Winery.  This area is located past Bedford City at the foot of Sharp Top mountain.  It was about a 40 minute drive from Lynchburg.  It was such a cute little winery.  It was a small side room on the ranch house that was just for tastings.  In the middle of the tasting room they had a big family style dinner table where we comfortably sat with 6 other Valentine's weekend tasters.  We all were given a wine glass and the wine started pouring.  The presenters were a hoot making all of us feel like we were part of their family!  We were given the background on each wine and how they were made.  All in all it took about 45 minutes and it was so relaxing!  It was a great idea and on top of that it was free! Of course we bought a few bottles of wine ; one of which was our favorite Blackberry Jammed. I highly recommend stopping by and becoming familiar with their wine.  I always love the idea of spending money at local wineries instead of giving your money to a chain grocery store :)

Also....
For those that like spicy foods, this wine was for you!  It was called I believe "Kiss The Devil Wine" it should be used for cooking but they had it for a tasting for those willing. I was not willing but did get the picture of the sticker they gave if you did attempt it.  My husband said it was sure was hot, made his whole face warm and cleaned out his sinuses.
